Class Representation and Production Techniques

  • Presentation

    Presentation

    The unit provides for the contextualization of various contemporary representation and printing techniques, their potentialities and limitations, as well as the practice of the processes. The techniques explored are:

    • Textile Screen Printing: Screen Printing on fabric
    • Monotypes : Printing with hardware on paper
    • Stencil: Stencil printing on paper.
    • Risography: Risography printing on paper.

  • Syllabus

    Syllabus

    • Theoretical introduction to Textile Screen Printing. Serigraphic printing on fabric.
    • Theoretical introduction to Monotype printing. Printing with hardware on paper.
    • Theoretical introduction to the Stencil technique. Stencil printingt on paper.
    • Theoretical introduction to the Risographic technique. Risography printing with two colors.
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    – Recognize and explore structuring elements of abstract geometric, figurative and typographic language in the implementation of projects applied to the field of Design.

    – Develop knowledge and skills that allow the elaboration and execution indifferent typologies of the printing area (textile serigraphy, monotypes, risography, stencil, stamp, and other alternative printing practices).

    – Provide knowledge in the field of graphic production (preparation of documents for printing).

    – Promoting experimentation and discovery of printing processes and respective materials (paints, tools and supports).

    – Expand technical and experimental culture in the field of Design and Arts.

    – Be able to design a print edition manually.

    – Expose students to new and different ideas and professional ways of working; closing the gap between academia and the market by allowing students to test tools and processes that they normally cannot access.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    – Use of differentiated resources – scientific articles, books, slides, film, objects and materials, study visits – capable of, on the one hand, providing theoretical support and, on the other hand, clarifying and motivating students for the contents and exercises/projects.
    – Active participation in laboratory classes using analog manufacturing equipment.

    The assessment consists of:
    1. Continuous assessment exercises (65%)
    1.1 Compositions and A3 prints in textile serigraphy with geometric figures and textures;
    1.2 Compositions Monotype prints with hardware for formal exploration.
    1.3 Stencil compositions and prints with geometric figures
    1.4 Compositions and final arts with geometric figures, typography and textures for printed publication in Risography.
    1.5 Publication production and finishing;
    2. Performance and participation in class (35%)
