- Expansion of the concept of 'sketching' as idea gathering/research, ideation and narrative or conceptual development.
- Extension to the extremes of archive and extended drawing, including the use of the body as sketching material.
- Continued training of 1st year skills, known and new techniques integrated into creative concept briefs.
- Use and exploration of color in social, historical, contemporary and scientific domains.
- Publication of students' research work related to UC Professor/Reacher subjects
Drawing and Sketching are the basis of visual thinking, to create and communicate ideas. More than an element of Communication Design and Illustration, they are essential tool to organize thought, visualize ideas, plan actions, experiment and let fail, being an indispensable working tool.

THE SKETCHBOOK AS A PLAYGROUND AND PROJECT LABORATORY. . (30%)
- The Sketchbook as a thinking tool (Field LogBook)
- Basic drawing exercises and Technique experimentation
- The Sketchbook(Field LogBook) as archive, expanded
- Visual references, found materials, etc,
- Comments on transmedia practice, how to part from the sketchbook to other drawing/illustration
FACE (measurement) AND MASK IN COLOUR (Composition) (15%)
- Face measurement and mask design

DRAWING AS RESEARCH: COLOUR IN ACTION . (40%)
- Mixing and blending colours in various materials
- Theme and content research and development : Materiality of colour its subjects/objects, elements and applications

Objectives
Objectives
At the end of the semester, the student should have broadened and deepened their graphic vocabulary and improved drawing techniques for the communication of information and ideas within Design and illustration projects.
They should understand and master various applications of drawing as a tool of research and illustration: both as a record of observation and as a record of imagination.
They should be able establish links between 3D subjects and manual rendering techniques; to explore and express volume, weight, depth, structure and surface in organic or inorganic subjects. And recognise and apply colour media as a contributing factor to these elements and in compositional terms.
Develop “thinking through drawing” as a research resource and recognising the role of sketching and the sketchbook itself for Design work.
It is expected that by the end of the semester the student will have gathered elements for personal development of their own illustrative and graphic styles

Teaching methodologies and assessment
In this CU innovative methodologies are at the forefront of the teaching-learning process. Expanded drawing and experimental practices are in themselves innovative processes explored in drawing and sketching as illustrative research practices. This CU give practical and theoretical examples and supports students own initiatives for innovation and reinvention . This is done through a methodology of research, multimedia and multimodal approaches.
This year the professors of 2nd yr drawing subjects will align their research interests with the taught class of this subject and collect and curate a publication at the end of the year, directly involving the students with its development and production.
