Miriam Da Silva Pina

Resume

Miriam Pina is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto since 2008. She has been a Ph.D. student at the École des Sciences Criminelles of the University of Lausanne since March 2019, holds a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Security from the same university with an honorable mention Summa Cum Laude, and has a degree in Psychology with a specialization in Psychology of Deviant Behavior from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. Currently, she is a teacher and Internship Coordinator for the degree in Criminology at FDUP, and the Scientific Coordinator of the Advanced Post-University Specialization in Victimology at the Portuguese Institute of Psychology (INSPSIC). Since 2020, she has been a doctoral fellow at the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In 2024, she co-edited two works in the field of victimology: Modern Insights and Strategies in Victimology and Investigating and Combating Gender-Related Victimization, with the international publisher IGI Global. In February 2022, she received the Pedagogical Innovation Award from the University of Porto. From January 2002 to July 2005, she worked as a Clinical Psychologist at the Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação, Portugal, specifically at the Gabinete de Estudos e Atendimento a Agressores e Vítimas (GEAV), where she was responsible for the evaluation and implementation of interventions with victims and aggressors. As a researcher, she has collaborated with the Universities of Porto, Lausanne, and Zurich on several national and international projects, including the Effects of Drug Substitution Programs on Offending among Drug-Addicts project, which produced the Campbell Collaboration meta-analysis. She is currently part of the Interdisciplinary Center for Crime, Justice, and Security at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto and serves on the Council of the School of Criminology. In her professional career, she was responsible for evaluating inmates and assessing the risk of recidivism at the Penitentiary Establishments of La Plaine de l'Orbe (Canton de Vaud, Switzerland). Since 2013, she has collaborated with UMAR in training qualified agents working in the field of Domestic Violence and its prevention or revictimization. Since 2016, she has been involved with the CRIAP Institute in the Victim Support Technician Course. She is a member of the working group on Prison Life & Effects of Imprisonment of the European Society of Criminology, a member of the European Society of Criminology (ESC), the International Association of French-Speaking Criminology (AICLF), and the Portuguese Association of Criminology (AICLP). Additionally, she is a member of the Supervisory Board of APAV - Portuguese Victim Support Association, and a member of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists, holding professional license No. 007961.
