Resume
Sofia Mateus Francisco holds a PhD in Educational Psychology (2022) from the Universities of Lisbon and Coimbra, with her research primarily focusing on the role of moral disengagement and online empathy in cyberbullying. She is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, where she teaches in the Psychology Bachelor's program and the Erasmus Mundus Master in Cyberspace Behavior and E-therapy. As a researcher at HEI-Lab (Digital Human-Environment Interaction Labs), her work explores the evolving relationship between psychology and technology. She is deeply interested in understanding school violence—specifically bullying and cyberbullying—and how to promote student well-being and coexistence. Her research goes beyond traditional analysis by examining how socio-emotional skills can be strengthened across diverse cultural and educational settings. Currently, she is focused on developing novel intervention methodologies that leverage Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and physiological data to better understand and mitigate the impact of cyberbullying in our digital age.
