Resume

JONAS RUNA is an artist, researcher, and Associate Professor at Lusófona University in Lisbon, where he currently serves as the director of the sound science and technology Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. His artworks were presented at the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, 55th and 56th Venice Biennale, 798 Art District (Beijing), ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Galerie Scheffel (Frankfurt), Logos Foundation (Ghent), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago do Chile), Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), Arnold Schoenberg Hall (The Hague), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (UK), Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon) and Casa da Música (Porto), among other venues. He studied Physics and Mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico and holds a BA in Sonology by the Royal Conservatory of the Hague (Netherlands). In 2015, he finished a PhD in Science and Technology of the Arts by the Catholic University of Portugal and was awarded a CEEC research contract (CEECIND/02302/2017) by FCT, working at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH)/Nova University of Lisbon. He was the Co-Principal Investigator of the FCT project TEPe - Technologically Expanded Performance (PTDC/ART-PER/31263/2017), based at the Faculty for Human Kinetics/University of Lisbon. He is a member of the Complex Systems Society and a member of the Board of the International Jew's Harp Society. In 2007, he created the duo ZUL ZELUB with Jorge Lima Barreto, for piano and electronic art music, and developed extensive transdisciplinary collaborations with the visual arts and contemporary dance (including the National Ballet Company). In 2015, he was nominated as one of the twenty-five greatest innovators in Portugal (Innovative Nation Award), a prize attributed by AUDI and the television network SIC Notícias, and in 2021, he became a member of the Sciences Academy of Lisbon - Young Scientists Seminar, a distinction attributed to the twenty most original scientists from all fields of knowledge.
