To apply for the Student Card you must first have the Digital Mobile Key.
The Mobile Digital Key is a means of authentication and digital signature certified by the Portuguese State that allows the user to access various public or private portals, and sign digital documents, with a single login. This mechanism associates a cell phone number to the civil ID number for a Portuguese citizen, and the passport or residence permit/card number for a foreign citizen.

If you have a digital mobile key, you can request your student card here.
International students who do not have a citizen card and a mobile key can only make a student card in person. Students must go to a CGD branch and bring with them the following documents Passport; Proof of residence; Proof of student at the University/Institute.
Note: External students cannot get a student card because they are not considered university students for all intents and purposes. Only when they meet the conditions for access to higher education, apply and become internal students can they do so.
