    The Curricular Unit "Extracurricular Activities" covers the students' autonomous search for knowledge and skills that complement the Master's program. The aim of this Curricular Unit is to enrich the students' educational experience through activities beyond the Master's curriculum. As the curriculum already includes solid scientific and technological knowledge, these activities seek to satisfy the interest of employers in valuing the students' extracurricular path in developing diverse skills. The relevance of this CU lies in its ability to broaden students' learning, promoting personal, social and professional development, preparing them to face the challenges of academic and professional life.

    Syllabus

    The syllabus for this course is varied and flexible as long as it achieves the objectives set out above. The activities of this CU, individually or in group, will be credited in accordance with the regulations of this CU and formulated, at the request of the student, through a proposal written by the student, subject to deliberation by the coordination of the CU. The total effort must include more than 75 hours, corresponding to 3 ECTS, and may include the following activities:

    1) Intensive courses (within the scope of international programs, at Universidade Lusófona or at other Universities);

    2) Participation in academic and scientific competitions (such as the Global Management Challenge, or other case study competitions);

    3) Unpaid research internships (centered on the projects/activities of the IEM Research Center or entities that have a protocol with the University);

    4) Unpaid internships in an external organization (organizations that have a protocol with the University).

    Objectives

    The CU of extracurricular activities aims to encourage students to explore initiatives that complement their curricular plan and allow them to acquire behavioral, social, scientific, technological, and professional knowledge, skills and competencies. The extracurricular activities to be developed by students should contribute to their enrichment both as people and as future professionals.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Innovative Methodologies to Support the Teaching-Learning Process in the "Extracurricular Activities" Curricular Unit consist of creative and modern approaches that enrich the educational experience beyond the regular curriculum. In this way, students are allowed to seek out practical projects, collaboration with experts, industrial or academic challenges or competitions, independent research, among others. The aim is to promote an innovative learning process, where students can gather knowledge and skills in an autonomous way that complements the curriculum of the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management.
