    4. Delimitation of the Object of Social Policy

    II - Main theoretical conceptions about the role of the State in the field of Social Policy: foundations and contributions

    1.  The Liberal/ Neoliberal Perspectives. 2. Intervencionists 3. Theory of social justice (Rawls)

    III - Social Policy and the welfare state

    1. The formation of the welfare state
    2. The welfare state models: conservative, liberal, democratic and southern europe.
    3. The development of the welfare state in Portugal
    4. The crisis and reconfiguration of the welfare state

    IV - The European Social Model

    1. Milestones and instruments of social policy in the EU
    2. Configuration of the European social model - Social Rights in EU
    3. Social situation and social policy in EU
       

     

     

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    - Know the main conceptions of Social Policy, the criticism and the current debate.
    - Understand the construction and development of the welfare state and the models present.
    - Acquire analysis tools that allow students to understand Social Policies as a dynamic mechanism of intervention in guaranteeing rights.
    - Learn to characterize the main conceptions of Social Policy bearing in mind the economic and social transformations and dynamics.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Interactive theoretical and practical classes with presentation of group work, aimed at deepening program themes. Practice of debates, thematic panels, simulations as a source of learning argumentation and orality. The evaluation will be continuous, valuing the attendance, punctuality and participation of students in the dynamics processed in class.
    Continuous evaluation assumes a total attendance of 75% and translates into the following elements:
    - Group work (based on texts provided by the teacher): 30%
    - 2 Individual written tests: 30% each
    - Practical exercises 10%
    Obtaining a weighted average (of the 3 elements) of less than 10 points, implies that the student has to go to an appeal exam.
