13.10.22 - 11h25

Stanford University (California, USA) has recently made available an update to the ranking of the most cited scientists worldwide, known as the "World's Top 2% Scientists list". Of the more than 100,000 researchers who appear on this list of notables, 3 belong to COPELABS/DEISI. In total, 5 professors/researchers from Universidade Lusófona are part of the list (Slavisa Tomic, Dushantha Jayakody, Patrícia Rijo, Marko Beko, Manas Sutradhar).

The database covers 22 areas and 176 disciplines, presenting a selection of scientists whose published research works accelerated progress in their respective areas, also influencing the work productivity of other researchers. The update published on the 10th of October uses citations from the Scopus database, a reputable online database of abstracts and citations of articles in academic journals, until August 2022.

Like what had been done previously, the data was compiled into two lists: one that allows measuring the impact over the course of the career and another that has the impact over the last year as a reference).

The study is initialed by an expert group led by John Loannidis (Stanford University), joined by Jeroen Baas (Elsevier B.V.) and Kevin W. Boyack (SciTech Strategies) and provides standardized information on citations, h- index, hm adjusted co-authorship index, citations of articles in different authorship positions and a composite indicator. The first version was published in 2019, with the purpose of creating a database of more than 100,000 scientists, available to the public, in order to combat self-citation abuses. Since then, the publication has been updated every year.

This recognition of the high quality of scientific production and the excellence of the institution's researchers consolidates the position of Lusófona University on the global map of excellence in research in multiple areas.

The study can be found on the PLOS Biology (PLOS Biology) website.
