    Presentation

Statistics for the Social Sciences is an integrated curricular unit in the Social Work 2nd year degree and aims to provide students with basic notions of descriptive statistics and skills for building instruments for collecting and analyzing information, as well as the interpretation of results. This curricular unit aims to provide skills in the operationalization of quantitative data, to prepare professionals to analyse the complexity of variables and their internal relations with the exterior, allowing the development of knowledge in Social Work.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

At the end of this curricular unit, the student should be able to operationalize concepts and interpret data that allow them to compare and analyse situations of social reality, using tools and software for analysis, namely: O1: Be able to operationalize concepts and interpret data, within the scope of descriptive statistics; O2: Recognize and use the interfaces of jamovi for computerization data and analysis of descriptive statistics, distribution normality, and association tests; O3: Identify, use, and interpret results of statistical association tests; O4: Select and apply, in a critical and reasoned way, the most appropriate statistical procedure to answer research questions; O5: Present the results of data analysis using tables and graphs and interpret the results correctly, answering research questions in Social Work.

    Teaching methodologies

The classes assume a theoretical-practical nature, and the contents will be taught in a constant interconnection between its theoretical exposition, application, and practical interpretation using jamovi, using active teaching/learning methodologies. Assessment will include two tests (50% each).
