Conference André Sousa | Great Artists on Campus #4
Great Artists on Campus #4 brings to Lisbon a reflection on art, space and visual narrative
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
On 7 October 2025, the Fernando Lopes Cinema at Lusófona University will host the cycle Great Artists on Campus #4, featuring Portuguese visual artist André Sousa. The in-person event is organised by the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technologies (ECATI) at ULusófona.
Born in Porto and a graduate in Fine Arts from FBAUP, André Sousa challenges disciplinary boundaries, engaging in a dialogue between expanded painting, sculpture, installation and conceptual thought. His work moves between abstraction and representation, exploring art history, mythology and literature, and how images and gestures accumulate meaning in visual culture.
He lives and works between Porto and Frankfurt, and has exhibited at international institutions such as the Fosun Foundation (Shanghai), Kunsthalle Freeport (Bangkok and Athens) and the Serralves Museum (Porto).
Co-founder of self-organised artistic spaces such as Uma Certa Falta de Coerência and recipient of grants from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, André Sousa presents in this cycle a reflection on the limits of the canvas and the screen, inviting us to rethink contemporary space through multiple visual and conceptual languages.
