Democracy versus Bureaucracy: European Institutions in Action
Far beyond treaty theory, the functioning of the European Union is shaped by the constant interplay between its main institutions
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
This open lecture offers a privileged analysis of the architecture of power in Brussels, exploring how democratic legitimacy and technical efficiency intersect in the decision-making processes that shape the continent.
The session will be led by Margarida Marques, former Secretary of State for European Affairs and former Member of the European Parliament, whose distinguished career within European institutions provides a holistic and in-depth view of the system. With cross-cutting experience spanning the European Commission, the Council of Ministers (General Affairs Council – GAC), and the European Parliament, the speaker will share a critical and practical perspective on the real mechanisms of power in Europe.
