Lusófona University – Lisbon University Centre and Porto University Centre is organising, from 12 to 16 May 2025, the international Erasmus BIP programme – Military Tourism, Re-enactment and Immersive Experiences: Bringing History Back to Life. This initiative, which brings together participants from Portugal, Belgium and Greece, aims to explore the educational and touristic potential of historical military heritage, offering an innovative, interdisciplinary and creative approach to teaching and valuing History.
Programme
12 May
- Lecture sessions and co-working at Lusófona University, focused on the theoretical framework of military tourism and the exchange of best practices among partner institutions.
13 May
- Guided tour of key military history sites in Lisbon, including the Military Museum and the Frigate D. Fernando II e Glória, encouraging direct contact with tangible heritage.
14 and 15 May
- Field trips to the Lines of Torres Vedras, Vimeiro, Aljubarrota and Tomar – locations deeply marked by Portuguese military history. These visits include meetings with local stakeholders, historical re-enactors, and representatives from museums and interpretation centres. Over these two days, participants will take part in creative labs aimed at developing new forms of immersive and collaborative tourism experiences.
16 May
- Closing session, sharing of outcomes and planning of future international collaborations in the field of historical and educational tourism.
