Gallaecia was one of the most important provinces in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula during the Roman period, forming the historical origin of present-day Galicia and Northern Portugal.
Initially inhabited by the Gallaeci peoples, it was integrated into the Roman Empire, which established administrative, urban and cultural structures that were decisive in shaping the territory. More than a mere administrative division, Gallaecia became a structuring space of identity, whose historical memory continued to influence the development of the region’s political and cultural consciousness over the centuries.
Despite its current condition as a divided territory, common identity elements persist, based on deep cultural, historical, social and linguistic affinities, which have contributed to maintaining close ties between the populations. It is precisely within this legacy that this event is inspired, proposing a reflection on the roots, continuities and projections of Galician-Portuguese identity.
