Conference Cycle Great Artists on Campus #1: Mila Turajlić
Exploring decolonisation and the political imaginary through the cinema of Mila Turajlić
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
Decolonisation, liberation movements, non-aligned countries: the Yugoslav artist Mila Turajlić delves into previously unseen film archives to trace the birth of the Third World project and explore its political imaginary.
For several years, Mila Turajlić researched the filmed archives of Yugoslav newsreels, working with Stevan Labudović, President Tito’s cameraman, who documented his travels across Africa and Asia during the turbulent period that marked the emergence of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The artist invites the audience to immerse themselves in these long-forgotten and never-before-seen images, analysing the role they played in an epic visual battle through which cinema gave voice to a world in the process of decolonisation. — Mila Turajlić
