Luciana Fina was born in Bari, southern Italy, and has lived and worked in Lisbon since 1991.

With a background in Portuguese and French literature, she began her career in cultural programming in Italy before becoming an independent film programmer, collaborating with the Portuguese Cinematheque and various institutions in Portugal, Italy, France, and Brazil.

In 1998, she directed her first documentary, marking the beginning of a creative practice that moves between cinema and the visual arts, often extending into exhibition contexts.

Her work explores themes such as nomadism, interculturalism, and the relationship between cinema and other art forms.

More recently, her research has focused on representation through filmed portraiture — questioning exposure time, the relationship with the subject, and its implications.

In collaboration with Moritz Elbert, she also develops projects in image, graphic design, and publishing.
