Maria Filomena Molder is one of the most prominent contemporary Portuguese philosophers, with a career dedicated to aesthetics, morphology, and thinking about the arts. She completed her PhD in Philosophy in 1992 with a thesis on Goethe’s morphological thought, supervised by Fernando Gil, and was a full professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon until 2013.
Author of an extensive essayistic body of work, she has published key titles such as Semear na Neve. Estudos sobre Walter Benjamin (1999), Rebuçados Venezianos (2016), and O Absoluto que Pertence à Terra (2005/2020), and has been awarded two P.E.N. Club Essay Prizes, the AICA/Carmona e Costa Foundation Prize, and the Jacinto do Prado Coelho Prize.
Her writing crosses philosophy, literature and the visual arts, notably including texts dedicated to artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Helena Almeida, Vieira da Silva, Rui Chafes, Julião Sarmento, and Francisco Tropa, among many others.
