As part of the 28th International Week of Cinema and Media Arts, an open screening of the Portuguese film “Justa” will take place at Cinema Fernando Lopes, followed by a conversation with the director Teresa Villaverde and the lecturers Adriana Sá and Amândio Coroado.

This work looks back to 2017, when Portugal was marked by large-scale wildfires that destroyed vast areas of forest and caused the death of children and adults. Some people lost their lives in their own villages, while others were trapped on a road.

The failure in communication and the lack of shelters worsened the tragedy.

The film does not take place in that year, but at a later time. The narrative follows a small group of people who lost their closest family members and now face the difficult path of relearning how to live after everything was taken from them.

With a cast that includes Filomena Cautela, Madalena Cunha and Betty Faria, “Justa” is born from these events and transforms them into fiction, reminding us that there are experiences so profound that they cannot be fully shared or understood by those who have never lived through them.
