Conference Women In Revolution

During the "Estado Novo", women faced significant restrictions in terms of civil liberties, political rights and gender equality, having limited access to education, the job market and political positions. On April 25, 1974, women were in Portugal were in the streets, along with men, celebrating and supporting the military who led the coup d'état. They distributed red carnations to the soldiers, symbolizing peace and revolution.

With the establishment of democracy, women began to play more active roles in all spheres of society, however, even with some advances, women continue to face gender inequalities. As examples, there are several asymmetries in the labor market, inequalities in the domestic and family spheres, and multiple forms of violence, that is, they continue in “revolution” to achieve effective equality in all spheres of public and private life.
