Presentation
Presentation
Advanced Film Editing Workshop is the final and most advanced editing course unit in the programme. It combines technical consolidation, conceptual depth, and intensive application in a project-based context. The course includes the presentation and discussion of advanced theoretical frameworks-namely the Abstract Machine, as developed in the lecturer's doctoral research-and operationalises this conceptual framework through practical editing exercises and a tutorial regime focused on final-year projects (short films). Practically, the course is organised in phases: (i) theoretical introduction (assemblage theory / advanced conceptual frameworks), (ii) advanced technical workflow and creative editing strategies for short films, and (iii) sustained tutorial supervision of final edits, including teaser/trailer development and version-based work leading to final cut.

Syllabus
I - Advanced conceptual framework * Assemblage theory (and its articulation with advanced conceptual models of editing). II - Advanced technical workflow * Proxies, synchronisation, project organisation, and media management. * Exports (sound, grading, DCP) and technical delivery requirements. III - Creative and narrative strategies in short films * Creative approaches; editing and point of view; progression from first cut to final cut. IV - Related materials * Teasers and trailers: function, language, editing, and presentation strategy. V - Final project tutorials * Ongoing tutorial supervision of final short-film edits, with periodic in-class presentations and version iteration.

Objectives
Objectives
By the end of the course unit, the student should be able to: 1. Use advanced theoretical frameworks to support editing decisions. 2. Operate advanced editing workflows. 3. Develop creative approaches to short-film editing, articulating rhythm, point of view, and meaning-making. 4. Work iteratively from first cut to final cut, integrating feedback and refining versions. 5. Apply advanced skills to final-year short film edits, demonstrating critical argumentation and self-assessment. 6. Conceive and edit related materials (teaser/trailer) consistent with the film's language and communication strategy.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
A lecture-based, analytical, and lab-based methodology, focused on: * Lectures and guided discussion of advanced conceptual frameworks. * Practical editing exercises with staged supervision (planning, first cut, review, final cut). * Intensive tutorial supervision of final projects, with regular in-class presentations and iterative versioning. * Work on technical requirements and aesthetic positioning of projects, including expectations and delivery planning.
