This course is an introduction to the scientific method and scientific culture in the field of informatics and computer science. Students learn basic and theoretical concepts of how scientific research works, as well as techniques and tools to improve their activity as researchers. It is intended that this theoretical and practical knowledge will be extensively applied during the final course project.

Objectives
Objectives
The main objective of this curricular unit is to promote in students the acquisition of basic and advanced competences in procedures and methods of investigation with particular emphasis in the area of computing and information systems. Further objectives include the acquisition of transversal competences in this field, in particular those relating to the ability to understand, present and write scientific information.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
The classes always involve a discussion among the students, with the teacher acting as moderator and defender of opposing viewpoints. Students are responsible for a practical project/problem that increases in complexity throughout the classes, incorporating previously acquired knowledge at each stage
