This course aims to frame renewable energy in the context of energy, in general, and in electrical energy in particular. The course is oriented towards the production of electrical energy from renewable sources, generically addressing the main technologies in the present and in the future: Hydro, wind, solar, oceanic, geothermal and biomass. The course also addresses the importance that renewable energies will have in the development of the hydrogen market.

SOLAR ENERGY: Solar thermal and photovoltaic energy. SELF-CONSUMPTION: Self-consumption; Energy Communities; Energy Storage. WIND POWER: On-shore; Wind exploitation; Wind turbines; Wind installations; Environmental impacts, among other aspects; Offshore; HYDRO ENERGY: Types of plants; Hydrological study; Design criteria; Environmental impacts, among others. OCEAN ENERGY: Classification of Existing Technologies; Wave energy parks; among other aspects. BIOENERGY: Biomass Introduction and Definition; among other aspects. Objectives
The objectives of the renewable Energy course imply the acquisition of knowledge: - About the relationship between climate change and its impact on the environment and energy resources. - Concept of renewable and non-renewable energy. - Concepts of primary, final, useful energy and energy supply. - About the main technologies for the use of renewable energy sources, namely: Solar thermal and Photovoltaic, Wind, Biomass, Geothermal, Oceanic and Hydroelectric. - Advantages and disadvantages of technologies for using renewable sources. - Self-consumption, energy and storage communities. - Main goals and objectives at national and European level. - Legal framework for renewable energy in Portugal. - Future importance of renewable energies. - Decarbonization and energy systems. - Approximate sizing of conversion systems. - Importance of renewable energies in the hydrogen market.

Teaching methodologies
Teaching methodologies
In theoretical classes, knowledge will be simultaneously transmitted either through formal exposition of the course contents or through interpolative methods, raising theoretical questions related to the course subject, with the aim of encouraging student intervention and participation. In theoretical-practical classes, students will be encouraged to solve problems on worksheets relating to the various themes covered in the theoretical classes of this course.
