Presentation
Presentation
It highlights the theoretical foundations of territorial management, supported by national legislation, beginning by presenting how various ancient civilisations structured themselves in the occupation of territory over time. It presents the fundamental concepts, instruments and variables in spatial planning, using practical examples from Portugal as a major reference point for application. The Planning Process, Management Instruments and the Portuguese Management System since the 19th century are presented and discussed, encouraging critical reflection and highlighting the importance of Public Participation. A course unit (UC) that aims to ensure that environmental engineers understand that the decisions to be implemented in each location must be adjusted after evaluating all the fundamental variables, and that planning and organising the territory is a task that requires very important and well-supported decisions, for which the knowledge acquired previously is important.
