Presentation
This Curricular Unit (CU) is presented as a complement to the Computer Networks UC. While the latter covers the network, transport and application layers, this Network Complements UC discusses the fundamentals of communication networks, and the physical and connection layers. Fundamental aspects associated with the design and dimensioning of communications networks are covered, across the most varied transmission media and connection types. Various performance evaluation metrics are also studied, with the aim of gaining quantitative and qualitative sensitivity.

Objectives
Objectives
This UC is intended for the student to understand the fundamental concepts of communication networks and be able to identify the problems they solve. For a set of requirements and a specific scenario, you must know how to identify and comparatively evaluate the different design and sizing strategies of the physical and connection components of a network, applying appropriate metrics to evaluate their performance, which lead to the choice of the optimal solution that best suited to the context.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
The UC is theoretical and practical. Theoretical classes follow the defined program, presenting theoretical concepts supported by practical examples. In practical classes, exercises are solved on the subject taught. In addition, in the first practical classes, Python and Django tutorials are provided, with each student building a basic Web application. Throughout the semester, weekly exercise sheets will be given on the subject taught. A project, a web application in Django, will also be developed throughout the semester.
