Presentation
This course module provides students with an initial introduction to criminal law. It covers the main principles of criminal law, as well as its place within the legal system. Students will then move on to the study of the general theory of criminal offences, beginning with criminally relevant conduct, the definition of offences and unlawfulness. The remaining categories will be covered in the Criminal Law II module. As is clear from the above, the field of study is criminal law; the module also examines, albeit briefly and therefore only touching upon the subject, offences against social order. The Criminal Law I module is indispensable and essential to the degree programme, as a large part of the legal profession-whether as a lawyer, judge or legal adviser-relies on an understanding of the syllabus content of this module.
