    The Curricular Unit (CU) Swimming appears in the second semester of the 2nd year of the 1st Cycle in Physical Education and Sport of ULP curriculum, consists of 45 hours of contact and 100 hours of total work and are awarded 4 ECTS. In the context of the 1st Cycle in Physical Education and Sport, this practical CU is fundamental for the development of basic skills and knowledge for the teaching of Swimming, including adaptation to the aquatic environment (babies, children and adults), swimming, starting and turning techniques and the swimming technical regulation. Additionally, it is intended to provide basic and updated knowledge about artistic swimming, diving and water polo.

    Program Content (PC)

    1) Historical evolution of pure sports swimming, water polo, diving and artistic swimming

    2) SWIMMING FOR BABIES: methodological proposal for adaptation to the aquatic environment of babies

    3) ADAPTATION TO THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT: methodological proposal for adaptation to the aquatic environment of children and adults

    4) PURE SPORTS SWIMMING - Swimming techniques: regulations, technical models and performance of swimming techniques; teaching progressions and technical improvement - Starting and turning: regulations, technical models and performance of starting and turning techniques; teaching progressions and technical improvement

    5) WATER JUMPING - base jumps, regulations and teaching progressions

    6) ARTISTIC SWIMMING - Techniques, positions, basic movements and schemes in artistic swimming, regulations and teaching progressions

    7) WATER POLO - regulation of the water polo game, the forms of movement and techniques with the ball and the different basic forms of play

    Objectives

    It is intended that students who attend this UC: Learning objective (LO) 1) Know the history of water sports and their national and international context LO2) Know the methodological progression inherent to adaptation to the aquatic environment for babies, children and adults LO3) Swim the 4 swimming techniques without type errors, start and turn according to the swimming technique, know the regulation and the specific language and know the methodological progressions of teaching LO4) Know the basic jumps, the regulation and the specific language and acquire knowledge regarding the methodological progressions of diving LO5) Know the techniques, positions, basic movements of artistic swimming, the regulation and the specific language and acquire knowledge regarding the methodological progressions of teaching LO6) Know the rules of water polo game, the forms of displacement and techniques with ball and the different basic forms played

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Different teaching methodologies (ME) will be used: Demonstration, experimentation and practical exercise (ME1) Pedagogical practices in a simulated situation of planning, organization and intervention within the scope of teaching/learning (ME2) Resolution of practical cases (ME3), Visioning and discussion documentaries/videos (ME4), Small group activities (ME5), Feedback information provided by the teacher about the work carried out (ME6).
