    The UC Biochemistry and Cell Biology is part of the 1st cycle in Physical Education and Sports, scientific area Biological and Exact Sciences. It aims to provide basic and specific knowledge regarding the main issues of cell biology and biochemistry as well as its application to exercise and physical activity.

  • Objectives


    It is intended that students acquire skills that allow them to identify and characterize the cellular structural organization, as well as the mechanisms associated with biochemical and bioenergetic functionality, in order to enable knowledge bases to develop skills in future curricular units.
    Defining the learning objectives (LO), it is intended that students who attend this CU: OA1) understand and discriminate the role and function of different cellular components and cellular dynamics; OA2) understand the interrelationship established between the different cell compartments; OA3) describe the intrinsic chemical reactions associated with different metabolic pathways of energy production; OA4) understand the limiting and conditioning factors of energy production through different metabolic pathways and OA5) understand the relevance and applicability of the contents of the discipline in research applied to Sport Biology.

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Different teaching methodologies (TM) will be used: Classes of an expository nature (TM1): Viewing and discussion of documentaries/videos (TM2), Small group activities (TM3), Feedback information provided by the teacher about the work developed (TM4).
