    High risk prenancy in the Mare Fetal well being evaluation Foaling Mare and first neonatal examination Neonatal resuscitation Immunity transfer Neonatal isoerolysis Fluid therapy and transfusion in the foal Parenteral feeding in the foal Antibiotic therapy in the newborn Septicemia, arthritis, diarrhea, pneumonia and disorders of the urinary system Dummy foal Non-infectious orthopedic diseases in the foal Nutrition of the foal Practical clinical examination of foal
  • Objectives

    Objectives

    To acquire knowledge about equine newborns. To know the main neonatal pathological conditions in the foal. Know how to perform the physical examination of the newborn foal. Know how to use the complementary diagnosis means in the assessment of newborns. as well as to interpret the respective results. Understand the pathophysiology of neonatal diseases and know how to apply the most appropriate treatment to each case.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    The students will have a practical lecture with newborn foals. It is expected that the students will adquire/improve their clinical skills, in order to perform a sound clinical examination of a foal.
