Class Surgical Pathology and Hospital and Field Activities II

  • Presentation

    Presentation

This discipline will show the student the approach to surgical cases, the techniques and skills necessary to carry out common surgical interventions in the practice of farm animal and horse clinics. It is a strong component in the farm animal and equine clinical preparation of future practitioners, as it will provide the skills to decide on whether and how to perform surgery in these animals.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

To know which surgical procedures are commonly seen in farm animal and equine clinics. To acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on the clinical approach of common situations occurring in large animal clinics that might require or will benefit from surgical intervention.  To put into proctice the theoretical knowledge acquired in pre-clinical disciplines (anamnesis, physical examination, ancillary diagnostics). To recognise a clinical problem in large animal species, identify the need for surgical intervention, to know the technique and preparation of the surgical tools and environment to carry out the procedures. To achieve a prognosis of presented cases and establish the cost-benefit association of the possible treatment.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

Use of pedagogical techniques such as problem-based learning, study of scientific articles, presentation and discussion of clinical cases.

    NOTA TEÓRICA FINAL = Freq 1 + Freq 2 + EAS 1 + EAS 2
