Presentation
The curricular unit Human Rights, Citizenship and Empowerment aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the historical, social, political and conceptual foundations of human rights, linking them to the concepts of citizenship, social participation and empowerment. Different conceptions of citizenship are explored, including active citizenship, citizenship education, inclusion and new forms of citizenship, as well as the main theoretical and practical approaches to political, social and cultural empowerment. The course also seeks to understand the links between mediation, human rights, citizenship and empowerment in diverse social contexts. Teaching favours participatory methodologies, critical discussion, text and case analysis, forums, group work and research activities, promoting autonomy, critical thinking and the application of knowledge to real situations.
