The Course Unit Integrated Water Resources Management II deepens the instruments and mechanisms used to implement integrated water management, focusing on the institutional, economic, and operational dimensions of water governance. The course analyses the role of public participation, the challenges associated with water services, and the different management instruments applied to the use, allocation, and protection of water resources. It also addresses issues related to drinking water supply management, wastewater management, water use rights allocation, and economic instruments in water management. The course further includes a critical reflection on different water management paradigms and their application in the European and Portuguese contexts.

By the end of the course, students should be able to: Understand the role of governance in implementing integrated water resources management. Critically analyse different water management paradigms and their application in Portugal and the European Union.

Teaching methodologies
