Cátia Marques

Resume

Cátia Marques has been an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, since October 2020. She is currently a Resident of the European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM), holds a PhD in Veterinary Sciences (2019, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon)—focused on veterinary microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship in companion animals—and an Integrated Master's in Veterinary Medicine (2010). Her career trajectory demonstrates a sustained commitment to veterinary microbiology and infectious diseases. Cátia Marques has participated in numerous research projects, demonstrating strong leadership skills as Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in an FCT-funded project, while accumulating extensive experience across molecular biology (PCR, qPCR TaqMan/SYBRGreen, flow cytometry), clinical microbiology, and antimicrobial stewardship. Her career-defining PhD research (2014-2019), funded by a competitive national grant, produced 5 first-author publications in high-impact international journals, including a landmark multicentric study across 12 countries and 14 laboratories. Her career is further evidenced by her extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals and active participation in national and international congresses, and ongoing supervision of MSc and PhD students. She serves as a regular peer reviewer and was invited as Guest Editor for Topic Issues in Antibiotics. Her scopus record reflects 34 peer reviewed articles, 1213 citations and an h-index of 19. Her ECVM residency builds upon this already dedicated career, bringing enhanced maturity and complexity to her commitment in veterinary microbiology and AMR stewardship.
