Resume

I have been a Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the ISCSP (University of Lisbon) since 2021, teaching various courses. My current research interests include public anthropology, the anthropology of religion, and the global economy and development. I am also interested in graphic ethnography, as I am an illustrator too. I have an MA from the University of Turin in Italy. I have dedicated my research to African Studies, particularly African Religious Studies. I undertook my first fieldwork in Kenya in 2003. In 2005, I volunteered in Mozambique for two years with two NGOs, working in urban contexts in Maputo and its outskirts. Following this experience in international cooperation, I resumed my studies, moving to Lisbon in 2007. I graduated from the ICS, University of Lisbon, in 2013 with a thesis on the healing practices of the Zion churches in Maputo. Over the past ten years, I have pursued a professional career in drawing and illustration, incorporating ethnographic and anthropological principles into my work. I have exhibited my work in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. I have also drawn on ethnographic data that I collected in Maputo, Mozambique, in line with the trend of art based on ethnography. In October 2017, I opened my art studio in Lisbon, providing a space for collaboration and exhibitions with other illustrators and artists. In 2018, I began collaborating with Professor Anna Fedele (CRIA-ISCTE-IUL) to collect ethnographic data in Lisbon for the FCT research project, 'Fátima, a Century After the Apparitions: Pilgrimage, Gender and Lived Religion', conducting qualitative interviews with Fátima devotees from Portuguese-speaking African countries. Since May 2019, I have been working at CRIA-ISCTE as a postdoctoral researcher on the HERA project 'HERILIGION: The Heritagisation of Religion and the Sacralisation of Heritage in Contemporary Europe', again under the supervision of Anna Fedele (CRIA-ISCTE). As a postdoctoral researcher, I collaborated in organising the final exhibition of the HERILIGION project: Enchanted Places, Heritage Spaces, which was held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon from 31 January to October 2020: http://www.patrimoniocultural.gov.pt/pt/agenda/exhibitions/exposicao-lugares-encantados-espacos-de-patrimonio/. As a CRIA researcher, I coordinated the "Pequena Oficina de Antropologia" project, which was funded by the Lisbon City Council and involved a primary school.
