The Galeria das Arcadas, at building 3 of Lusófona University - Porto University Centre, hosted the exhibition “Primeiro Registo” from 18 to 27 February 2026.

Throughout the gallery, several mannequins displayed highly distinctive and individual dresses. These creations were developed by first-year students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design and Production during the 1st Semester.

“Primeiro Registo” or “First Approach” represents the students’ first contact with fashion at all levels, both in terms of concept development and the materialisation of an idea that moves from a sheet of paper to its real-scale execution in a dress, explains Luís Buchinho, Fashion Designer and lecturer at ULusófona. The exhibition’s name was therefore inspired by this being the students’ first approach to fashion.

The works developed within the Curricular Units of Drawing and Fashion Design Project I were based on botany, community and the selection of a Parisian brand as their starting point. The exhibited projects applied “various techniques related to fashion illustration”, and it is important to note that they “were developed using calico, the base material used to test everything in fashion before moving on to the final piece”, Buchinho added.

The initiative thus reinforced the importance of experimentation, technical rigour and conceptual development in fashion education, highlighting the fundamental role of early experiences in building a solid foundation for professional development.
