“Os Terríveis”, by João Antunes, from ULusófona wins award at Fantasporto

The film “Os Terríveis”, directed by João Antunes, a student at Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre, won the award in the school competition at the 46th edition of the Fantasporto – Porto International Film Festival.

The short film, screened on 3 March, follows “Franco and Agostinho, two brothers bound by violence,” who “spent decades in the shadows, tormented by their mother’s suicide,” and who, upon returning to take revenge on the man they believe caused their nightmares – their father – end up finding “only an old dying man, cared for by a sweet and innocent nine-year-old girl”. Faced with this scenario, the brothers are confronted with a difficult choice: to carry out revenge or to end the cycle of violence through forgiveness.

The festival began on 27 February at Batalha – Cinema Centre, with the premiere of “Bakudan” by Japanese director Akira Naguai, and ended on Sunday, 8 March, with the screening of “After Us, The Flood” by Finnish director Arto Halonen.

Over ten days, Fantasporto presented around a hundred films, including 31 premieres, reinforcing its role as one of the most important genre film festivals in Portugal.
