Project TruthShield Holds Kick-Off Meeting in Athens

Diogo Morais, Timóteo Rodrigues and Margarida Santos represented Lusófona University/CICANT at the kick-off meeting of the European project TruthShield: Educating for a Resilient Future, held in Athens on 29 and 30 January.

The meeting brought together representatives from partner institutions to formalise the start of the project, define objectives, activities, and the implementation framework. This first transnational meeting marked a decisive step in building a common strategy to address digital manipulation and disinformation in higher education.

Coordinated by University of the Peloponnese, the project brings together an international consortium that also includes Tartu Ülikool, Hochschule Wismar, and the Ukrainian Centre of the Future. TruthShield aims to provide higher education students with a solid theoretical foundation and practical examples to understand manipulation techniques in digital environments, while strengthening their ability to identify and respond to misleading or harmful content.

The project also includes the development of innovative training programmes for teachers, integrable into pedagogical practices, and activities that empower students to produce content countering false information and manipulative narratives. By promoting digital literacy, resilience, and responsible online participation, TruthShield seeks to prepare young people to navigate digital environments safely and with critical awareness.
