ULusófona Secures EIT Funding for a New International Master’s Programme
International programme strengthens Lusófona University’s leadership in the audiovisual sector

Lusófona University has announced the approval and funding of a new international Master’s degree in Audiovisual Media, under the EIT Culture & Creativity (CCSI KIC) Education Call 2025.
The programme, awarded the EIT label and entitled BYTE – FILM (Bridging Young Talent and Entrepreneurship in the Film and Audio-Visual Industries), positions Lusófona University as the project leader and brings together a distinguished European consortium of academic and industry partners.
BYTE – FILM has been designed to equip emerging professionals with advanced entrepreneurial skills, tailored to the evolving audiovisual landscape. The programme places particular emphasis on the use of disruptive technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR), fostering innovation-driven creativity and supporting the development of new business models in the film and audiovisual sectors across Europe.
The Master’s is developed in collaboration with a wide network of partners within the FilmEU – European Universities Alliance for Film and Media Arts, including:
- SP Televisão S.A. (Portugal)
- Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology (Ireland)
- Baltic Film, Media and Arts School, Tallinn University (Estonia)
- LUCA School of Arts (Belgium)
- Lithuania Academy of Music and Theatre (Lithuania)
This collaboration strengthens cross-border academic exchange while deepening connections between higher education institutions and industry stakeholders.
By integrating technological innovation with creative practice, the programme aims to prepare graduates capable of leading and transforming the European audiovisual industries.

Funded by EIT Culture & Creativity, part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), this initiative reflects a broader European commitment to strengthening the cultural and creative sectors through education, entrepreneurship and innovation.
BYTE – FILM will serve as a strategic platform to connect young talent with entrepreneurial ecosystems, ensuring that graduates not only possess creative skills but are also able to launch and sustain innovative projects in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
With this new EIT-labelled Master’s programme, Lusófona University reinforces its position as a leading European institution in the field of film and audiovisual studies, consolidating Portugal’s role in shaping the future of the creative industries in Europe.
