ULusófona Takes Leadership Role in International Structural Engineering Group
Engineering lecturer represents the institution in an IABSE group focused on infrastructure monitoring and resilience

Lusófona University is strengthening its presence in the international engineering landscape through its participation in a working group of the IABSE – International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, one of the most prominent global associations in the field.
Since 1 March 2026, Elói Figueiredo, Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Lusófona University, has taken on the role of Chair of Working Group TG 5.11 of Commission 5. This group focuses on structural health monitoring, promoting the connection between scientific research and practical application in real-world contexts.
The main objective is to support the transition of structural monitoring technologies from research to real-world application, fostering solutions that enhance infrastructure resilience in the face of ageing and the challenges posed by climate change.
The IABSE plays a central role in promoting innovation, safety and sustainability in bridge and structural engineering, by building connections between research, professional practice and public policy on a global scale.
The presence of Lusófona University in this international group highlights its commitment to scientific and technological development and to addressing contemporary challenges in the field of engineering.
