Lusófona University - Porto University Centre welcomed International mobility students on 18 February, who arrived in Porto to undertake their 2nd Semester. The Welcome Session for Erasmus Students – 2nd Semester aims to support students’ integration into the academic community and the city, through the presentation of services, support structures and essential practical information for their stay.

The address by Isabel Babo, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Cooperation at Lusófona University, opened the session, welcoming the students and highlighting the importance of the mobility programme for their academic and cultural experience at the University.

During the session, participants also attended a presentation by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), which introduced integration initiatives and activities aimed at international students. This was followed by an address from the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), providing safety recommendations and useful information for daily life in the city, and a presentation by the Câmara Municipal do Porto, outlining municipal services, mobility and the cultural offer available.

The session also included a guided tour of the city of Porto, offering students a first contact with the area and contributing to their adaptation to the new academic and cultural context.

Tânia Abreu, staff member of the EVA - Internships, Active Life and Lifelong Learning, was involved in the organisation and explained that the main aim of the Welcome Session is “to receive our students as they begin the 2nd semester, introduce them to the city, especially our services, and also provide them with safety advice”, also emphasising the importance of introducing the international coordinators and the support mechanisms available in each faculty.

The welcome session thus represented an initial moment of information and engagement, bringing together different entities and services that will accompany Erasmus students throughout the semester and contribute to their academic, social and cultural integration.
