Class Physics of Constructions

  • Presentation

    Presentation

    The curricular unit of Building Physics addresses the fundamental principles governing the physical behaviour/performance of buildings, particularly on their thermal and hygrothermal behaviour, acoustic performance, and ventilation. The curricular unit aims to cover the theoretical concepts related to the thermal, hygrothermal, moisture-related, acoustic, and ventilation behaviour of buildings, appropriately framed within the context of current regulations and technical requirements. The Building Physics curricular unit aims to equip students with the scientific and technical competencies required for the analysis, design, and evaluation of building envelope solutions that enhance indoor thermal and acoustic comfort, buildings energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality. As such, it constitutes a particularly important component of professional practice of design in Civil Engineering.

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The Building Physics curricular unit has the objective of providing the students with the theoretical knowledge and scientific-technical principles in the fields of building thermal and hygrothermal behaviour, ventilation, and acoustics. It also aims to contextualize the theoretical concepts taught within the framework of the current regulations and legislation as well as with the related technical requirements, enabling the students to understand their practical application in the design, operation and rehabilitation of buildings.
  • Teaching methodologies

    Teaching methodologies

    The Building Physics curricular unit also incorporates innovative student-centred teaching and learning methodologies. These include problem-based and project-based learning, case-study analysis, and the use of digital resources to support learning. Through these, students are encouraged to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom to situations that closely reflect professional design practice in Civil Engineering. These methodologies are primarily implemented within the theoretical-practical classes, where active student participation is fostered through the analysis and resolution of engineering problems. In addition, autonomous learning outside the classroom is strongly encouraged through the consultation of recommended literature, technical documentation, and the regulatory framework, as well as through the completion of exercises and the exploration of supplementary learning resources provided by the professor.

  • Assessment

    Assessment

    A ponderação dos diferentes momentos de avaliação na classificação final (100%) é a seguinte:

    • 1º Momento de Avaliação - Módulo de Comportamento Térmico: 60%
    • 2º Momento de Avaliação - Módulo de Comportamento Acústico: 40%

    A classificação final (CF) resulta da seguinte fórmula de cálculo:

    CF = 0,60 x T1 + 0,40 x T2

    Em que:

    • T1 - classificação obtida no 1º Momento de Avaliação;
    • T2 - classificação obtida no 2º Momento de Avaliação.

    NOTA 1: Nota final (CF) mínima de 10 valores (escala 0 a 20 valores) para aprovação à UC.

    NOTA 2: É exigida uma classificação mínima de 6,0 valores em cada uma das componentes da avaliação contínua. O incumprimento desta condição limita a classificação final da Unidade Curricular a 9 valores.

    NOTA 3: O docente tem, em qualquer circunstância e sem restrições, a possibilidade de requerer aos estudantes uma prova oral para confirmação de nota obtida.

    NOTA 4: O docente poderá solicitar a discussão oral, individual, de qualquer elemento de avaliação, sem aviso prévio e apenas aos estudantes que entenda selecionar. A classificação poderá ser revista caso o estudante não demonstre domínio do trabalho apresentado.

    NOTA 5: Qualquer situação de plágio, cópia, utilização indevida ou não declarada de ferramentas de inteligência artificial será tratada de acordo com os regulamentos em vigor.
