The course unit consists of an introduction to the fundamentals of scientific research, focusing on the methods used in the social sciences. More specifically, the course unit covers general research concepts, an introduction to the scientific method, different research approaches in the social sciences, ethics in academic research, and a detailed approach to the research process in the social sciences, including defining the initial research question, exploration, defining the problem, and planning data collection and analysis.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
The syllabus will be covered using a lecture and active method. To consolidate the knowledge there will be developed some educational activities such as analyzing articles, group work of critical reflection, simulation exercises for the various stages of a research.
