This curricular unit provides students in Management and in Management and Human Resources Development with a foundation for understanding how the state, institutions, and political regimes shape the economy and, consequently, how organizations operate, strengthening their ability to interpret the external context that frames management and people-management decisions. In parallel, it develops practical skills in critical analysis, argumentation, and debate, which are essential for communicating rigorously, justifying choices, and assessing solutions to concrete socioeconomic and organizational challenges.

Objectives
Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Critically compare varieties of socialism and capitalism. 2. Critically analyze the Modern State as an economic and political agent, discussing its origins, functions, and institutional variations. 3. Compare economic systems and political regimes based on institutional, performance, and power distribution criteria, articulating historical evidence and theory. 4. Construct and evaluate arguments in light of the theoretical and methodological frameworks of Political Economy. 5. Critically assess the current state of socioeconomic and political issues.

Teste (55%) - sobre o tema I. Economia Politica
Questão aula (10%) - sobre o tema II.1.Argumentação
Debate 1 (17,5%) e Debate 2 (17,5%) - grupos de 4 elementos, sendo que os serão propostos pelos alunos devendo estar relacionados com a disciplina e incidir sobre assuntos socioeconómicos e políticos, privilegiando temáticas atuais. O professor reserva-se o direito de veto sobre os temas, os quais deverão ser previamente apresentados e discutidos com o docente antes de serem formalmente propostos. Cada grupo deve propor um tema de debate. Cada aluno poderá votar nos 3 temas de debate que mais aprecia. Os três temas mais votados serão os selecionados. Cada grupo apenas será informado, no próprio dia do debate, sobre o tema, o grupo adversário e a posição que deverá assumir (defesa ou oposição).

O exame escrito será sobre os temas lecionados sobre I. Economia Politica e II.1. Argumentação, assim como dos temas que foram selecionados para debate (II.2.).
