Resume
Kalina Samardjieva holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Technology from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Porto. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário do Porto. There, she teaches courses on environmental monitoring, environmental chemistry, microbiology, and analytical methods within the environmental engineering and civil protection programs. Her research focuses on the monitoring and characterization of airborne contaminants in operational environments. Recently, she has addressed the assessment of bioaerosols and biological risks in waste management facilities. This work contributes to the development of environmental monitoring approaches for assessing and mitigating occupational exposure in complex working environments. Through her teaching and applied research activities, she has gained expertise in environmental monitoring methodologies, analytical techniques, and experimental approaches for characterizing environmental contamination. Additionally, she teaches within the Civil Protection Engineering program, where she addresses environmental hazards and exposure risks associated with emergency response operations. Her current research interests are centered on environmental exposure monitoring, occupational environmental health, and the development of methodologies for measuring airborne contaminants in dynamic operational contexts, including emergency response environments.
