    It is intended that students consolidate or acquire knowledge about the fundamental concepts of Probability and learn the basic methods of Statistical Inference, both parametric and non-parametric, which are an indispensable tool for making decisions in situations of uncertainty. Thus, students should be able to identify and apply appropriate statistical methods for analyzing data in practical situations within the scope of biotechnology. These competences are of great importance in the field of biotechnology, not only in an applied field but also in the field of scientific research.

    Syllabus

    1. Basic concepts, population and sample, data and variables, rigor and precision
    2. Descriptive statistics: organization and presentation of data: organization of tables and graphical methods for qualitative and quantitative data. Numerical methods (parameters and statistics; measures of central tendency and dispersion).
    3. Probability: basic concepts. Probability distribution: discrete distributions (Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson); continuous distributions (normal, exponential)
    4. Central Limit Theorem:
    5. Parametric Statistical Inference: point estimation; confidence interval for the proportion and parameters of a normal population; hypothesis tests
    6. Linear regression: characteristic parameters
    7. Statistical inference about the difference between proportions. Ratio between the variances of two normal populations; Difference between the mean values of two populations; Analysis of variance.

    Objectives

    1-Know how to define the most appropriate statistical method for the analysis of experimental data;
    2-Ability to analyze and interpret the results obtained according to the methods and tools used;
    3-Propose and test hypotheses according to the most appropriate statistical method
    4-To develop the autonomy and critical analysis of the theoretical-practical methods implemented

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Use of active methodologies, in particular provision of material prior to the class through platforms such as Moodle, with basic guidance on the subject. The referred materials include videos, audios, infographics, among others. Later in class, students ask questions, discuss the subject and compare answers Presentation and discussion of case studies, problem solving, individually or in groups, to encourage interaction and group spirit

    The continuous assessment is based on two tests (minimum final average of 10 points for approval) or a final global frequency (minimum score of 10 points for approval) and one work, carried out during the semester. The frequency assessment corresponds to 80% and the work to 20% of the final grade.

    If the student is not approved by continuous assessment, the student undergoes a final exam requiring a minimum grade of 10 values for approval
