  • Syllabus

    Syllabus

The course deals with the principles of engineering. It includes the following topics:

    1.         Technical drawings using computer aided methods for the design of sustainable products.

    2.         DIN and other engineering standards, design, and tolerance.

    3.         Forces and moments in the plane.

    4.         Free body and balance of forces and moments.

    5.         Loads, support reactions and internal forces.

    6.         Normal and shear stresses, stress-strain ratio and Hook´s Law, strength, and material properties

  • Objectives

    Objectives

It is the goal of the course to learn the principles of Engineering. At the end of the course, students should be able to:

    a)         Understand and customize technical drawings.

    b)         Know the basic contents of technical descriptions.

    c)         Know the terms strength and moment.

    d)         Understand the free body diagram.

    e)         Determine supportive reactions and internal forces through equilibrium conditions.

    f)          Determine one-dimensional and planar stresses and their relationship with deformations.

  • Teaching methodologies and assessment

    Teaching methodologies and assessment

The course comprises theoretical sessions based on PowerPoint presentations and other audiovisual methods, where the main principles of engineering are presented, complemented by concrete examples/problems. The CU also has a theoretical-practical component with the resolution of exercises and case studies where students apply and develop some of the theoretical concepts
