    The curricular program of Advanced Design Project consists in the development of the visual identity of IDA – IBERIAN DESIGN ARCHIVE.

    The development of this visual identity is more than an exercise in branding or corporate image. It is intended is a broader and richwe view of the idea of a graphic archive common to both countries and a representation system that assists it in different circumstances. The project will convene tools and methods from research in design, oriented to respond to a statement that contains some thematic complexity. Questions related to the concept of Archive, graphic assets, Iberian identity, among others, are called upon to respond to the problem.

    The program aims to develop design solutions with the ultimate goal of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, in partnership with the Museum of Theater and DanceThe project is based on the following overlapping stages.

    Thematic support content will be provided by the professors, based on the Museum's collection. Questions related to Archive, Graphic Design, Visual Identity and Democracies will be the keywords. The project is based on the following overlapping stages:

    1. Field research; visit to libraries; inquiry of Portuguese graphic design archives and collections;

    2. Creation of a library/book collection by group of students;

    3. Multiple formal exercises (whole semester);

    4. Experimental visual essay that materializes the research results;

    5. Project proposal to the Museum of Theater and Dance

    6. Presentation of a publication that documents and supports the development of the identity project

  • Objectives

    Objectives

    The intended outcome of the Curricular Unit is:

    To enable and develop the designer as an innovator and as a problem solver. 

    To value innovation, critical thinking and the capacity to reflect as agents of social, economic and cultural transformation. 

    To foment briefing analysis and problem solving through a process which follows specific stages: discovery, creation, validation e implementation which intends to create and select ideas, experimentation, presentation and defense of the found solution. 

    To foment team work collaboration and project management. 

    To use interdisciplinarity as a privileged way of approaching and solving the challenges proposed along the semester.

    To ensure that the acquisition of technical competences and design technologies is made in real life contexts, which is, emerged within the reality of the environmental challenges and questions, sustainability and the social challenges that arise.
