Operations Management (OM) deals with the design, management and continous improvement of processes used to create and deliver to clients products and services. In a simple way, OM is the function with the responsability for production and delivery of whatever a firm does as its business.
Nowadays, more frequently we are talking about Operations and Supply Chain Management.

I. Introduction to Operations Management . Basic concepts: Operations and productivity; Business strategy and operations. Project management and control: Project management techniques: CPM/ PERT; Cost - time tradeoffs.
II. Process analysis and management. Process analysis and design. Quality management: Statistical process control. Methodology 6-Sigma for continuous improvement. Waiting lines: Models MM1 and MMS. Aggregate Planning: Chase and level strategies. Short-term scheduling: Scheduling: Priority rules for dispatching jobs.
III. Supply Chain Management. Concepts. Lean techniques: JIT, Kanban. Inventory Management: ABC analysis; EOQ; Probability models: fixed quantity with constant and random demand, and fixed - period with random demand systems.

Objectives
The objective is to give to the students the concepts and techniques to allow them to understand and work on continous processes of industrial and services operations.

Teaching methodologies and assessment
Teaching methodologies and assessment
- The teaching approach to this subject is focused on the resolution of typical operations management problems, through sessions of presentation of the theoretical grounds and its application to solve practical exercises.
- The students evaluation is done through two written tests (40% + 50%) in English or Portuguese language, and class activity (10%).
- Approval will be obtained with a minimum global evaluation of 10 points (in 20)
