The Scientific Writing curricular unit contributes to the development of research, critical analysis, and knowledge production skills in the Portuguese language. In a context shaped by the current and future challenges of the Portuguese language, this curricular unit promotes mastery of academic and scientific writing practices, valuing clarity, methodological rigour, and well-founded argumentation. Through a contemporary and interdisciplinary perspective, students develop scientific communication skills that are essential for the construction and transmission of knowledge in the fields of the Portuguese language, cultures, and literatures.

Objectives
Objectives
The UC's central focus is to contribute to the understanding of the role of writing in advanced research, translating this concern into the analysis of the research process and its representation and, additionally, into the sharing of argumentative writing production strategies and basic rules to be followed. The learning objectives are: O1. understand the characteristics of research practice and its representation O2. understand the relationships between the paradigms underlying the research carried out and the appropriate forms of representation O3. identify texts of a scientific nature O4. recognize the value of disseminating research results O5. recognize the purposes and functions of scientific writing O6. identify and apply quality criteria in scientific writing O7. produce texts of a scientific nature O8. apply the APA standards for referencing in scientific text
