Class Ethics and Deontology in Psychology

This UC aims to respond to the countless ethical challenges that arise in psychological practice, seeking the development of ethical and deontological thinking, framing it in its historical roots.

1.    Ethical foundations in Psychology:
1.1.    Ethics and deontological codes in Psychology;
1.2.    Ethical decision making;
1.3.    Skills: Professional, emotional, with diverse populations;
1.4.    Boundaries, multiple roles, professional relationships and sexualized relationships.
2.    Specificities in different areas:
2.1.     Clinical and Health Psychology: informed consent; clients who put themselves or others at risk; confidentiality and personal data; palliative care;
2.2.    Psychology of Organizations;
2.3.    Educational Psychology;
2.4.    Forensic Psychology;
2.5.    Research: Vulnerable populations, informed consent, experimental deception.
3.    Specificities in different populations: children, adolescents and elderly adults.
4.    Specificities in online performance (research and intervention).
5.    Regulation of professional practice.
6.    Conduct and Code of Ethics of OPP: General and specific principles.

Expository method to describe the historical foundations, concepts and ethical and deontological principles, using practical cases to illustrate the application of these principles in solving the main ethical challenges. Continuous assessment consists of:

- written test (60%);

- group written work (20%);

- oral presentation group work: synchronous discussion with the teacher in the classroom with the presence of students (20%). The non-continuous assessment consists of a final exam (100%).

Attendance at practical classes is required. The time of appeal consists of a written examination with a weighting of 100% in the final grade, which will focus on all theoretical and practical content. As a final grade, the student must obtain a minimum grade of 10 points.
