Theoretical Program:
General principles of nutrition: Nutrients; Food nutritional composition models - Weende and Van Soest; Digestibility concepts; Energy, valorization of Nitrogen Compounds; Regulation of voluntary intake; Metabolism
Food for the most relevant animal species: - Poultry, Pigs, Dairy and meat cattle, Small Ruminants, Horses, Rabbits, Fish, Dogs and Cats, Exotic companion animals -
Compound Feed Factories - Additives in Animal Feed
Theoretical/Practical Program
Practical exercises on food composition;
Formulation of feed for animals? historical evolution, manual trial method, Pearson Square, linear computer programming - Practical Preparation of Animal Food Formulas - National and Community Legislation relating to Animal Food.

Objectives
1. Acquire knowledge about different types of food: pastures, fodder, concentrates;
2. Understand the existence of adequate food programs for each animal species;
3. Understand the different nutritional requirements depending on certain conditions: animal species, breed, productive objectives;
4. Knowing how to calculate animal nutritional needs adapted to each specific situation;
5. Acquire knowledge about food formulation for specific situations from reference tables

Teaching methodologies and assessment
In a regime of continuous assessment and final exam, the presence of at least 2/3 of the theoretical and practical classes is mandatory.
For approval in continuous assessment, the student must obtain a rating equal to or greater than 9.5 in all theoretical assessments and in the practical component the student must have a minimum weighted average of 9.5 values.
The final grade is the average of the theoretical and practical evaluation.
Continuous practical assessment: assessment that includes written practical assessments during teaching breaks, together with delivery of work carried out in classes and appreciation of student attendance and participation in classes - 50% of final pratical grade.
Theoretical continuous evaluation: 2 written tests - 50% of the final theoretical grade
